Artist Profile 

JILL PELTO

Jill Pelto is an artist who is a university graduate with a degree in earth science and studio art. His paintings are based on statistics of how climate change affects the environment. His paintings are based on several data sets that shows the different environmental effects of climate change. He aims to create awareness to this by attracting people using the visual arts instead of the usual graphs (Segal, 2016).

JOHN EVERETT MILLAIS

John Everett Millais was an English painter and book illustrator. He was a child prodigy and was the youngest student to enrol at the Royal Academy school (ArtUK, n.d.). His artworks are widely recognised. His artworks portray humans, people. His artworks are mostly realistic in which, for example in Ophelia, the body looked realistic and helped elevate the mood the painting gives off.

EDVARD MUNCH

Edvard Munch was an Expressionist and Symbolist painter. His artworks portray strong, powerful colours and include elements of abstraction. He aims to bridge himself, his perceptions, with the world around him (The Art Story Foundation, 2018).

WILLIAM-ADOLPHE BOUHUEREAU

William-Adolphe Bouguereau was a French Realist painter. Most of his artworks depicts mythological narratives such as the Byblis. His artworks are mostly realist depictions of human beings in simple, and plain setting (Artnet Worldwide Corporation, 2018).

JOAN SEMMEL

Joan Semmel started painting Abstract Expressionist artworks and later, exploring erotic themes. She paints portraits of nude females in a rather different way; a little more powerful in a way. The flesh tones she uses in her paintings are bright and colourful which helps to express the subject she is painting, such as her paintings of nude, old, ladies in which the colours as well as the brush strokes used helps to illuminate the art piece and emphasize the age of the lady (Artsy, 2018).

ANTONIO FINELLI

Antonio Finelli is an Italian Painter who has been using the elderly as the subject of his hyper realistic paintings. He chose to paint the elderly as he wanted to unveil the “passage of time on human skin”. His fascination for the transformation of the body over time led him to express the signs of age – the fine lines that start to form, the loss of elasticity in the skin – in his paintings (Barros, 2015).

EUGENE DELACROIX

Eugene Delacroix is a French Romantic painter. He uses contrasts and shadows to help elevate his pieces and help convey the emotion the paintings hold. His paintings are usually inspired by past events; historical events or contemporary events. This is evident in how most of his paintings depict tragic topics such as battles and rebellion (Encyclopaedia Britannica, Inc., 2018).
