PASSION IN THE ARTS
I have always had an interest in the performing arts; mainly in Malay Cultural Arts. This interest has led me to join co-curricular activities such as Malay Dance and Dikir Barat in secondary school, and currently Dikir Barat and Malay Theatre in Ngee Ann Polytechnic. Previously, I was in the English Language Debate and Drama Society before in secondary school but I realized that I had more interest in singing and dancing.

I am currently still actively involving myself in different productions and performances to gain technical skills, social skills as well as leadership skills.
NOTABLE PRODUCTIONS
& PERFORMANCES
as both a performer and as a committee member
As a performer, I participated in various competitions, performances and productions. I have been in Indian Dance, Malay Dance, Dikir Barat and Theatre. I do my best in every performance and put in a lot of effort during trainings to ensure that I am prepared for each performance. Since it is my passion, I find a lot of joy in working together with different people to put up an enjoyable stage.

Besides being a performer, I was also given the opportunity to be part of the various committees (for the club as well as for the productions). I have not only learnt the technicalities and what goes on behind the stage, but I also managed to pick up and hone my team management skills as well as design skills.

Reflection:

For this production, I was initially offered the role of Assistant Head of Administration. I was very excited for this role as I realised I enjoyed doing administrative work. I was also very grateful for the committee for offering me this role for me to gain experience after learning that I was interested. Given this role, I did meeting minutes, managed the finances of the production as well as assist the team when they need assistance. I am very grateful for my team members for assisting me and guiding me through certain things that I did not know how to do.

Halfway through the production, I was offered the role of Assistant Head of Publicity. I initially did not want to take up this role because I felt like I had too much on my plate. However, the committee believed in me and assured me. I am very grateful for the support and assistance from the Production Manager, Riahan, who helped me keep the team moving, as well as the President of Malay Cultural Club, Syafiqah, who assisted in the design of publicity materials.

For this production, I was also a cast - part of the ensemble team. I really enjoyed training for this production as it was something I am passionate about. I also had a great time bonding with other people. From this production, I managed to improve my performing skills as a cast, as well as leadership and technical skills as a committee member.

MENCARI PURNAMA II

Roles:
Assistant Head of Publicity
Responsibilities:
Design work: design the poster and the pages for the e-booklet
Management: manage the publicity team and delegate the jobs to be done in marketing the production
Challenges faced:
Designing according to a theme | As it was my first time designing for an event, it was quite hard to design according to the theme and mood of the show. I overcame this by doing research on what posters and collaterals of similar themes looked like.
Skills/ Learning points:
Design skills
Leadership skills
Management skills
Communication skills
Reflection:

For this production, I was offered the role of Assistant Head of Publicity. When I was told that I was offered this role, I was initially scared and skeptical of it as I did not have any experience in design and felt like I could not do a good job. However, my partner assured me that she will teach and guide me through everything. With that, I began my journey of learning how to use Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premier Pro as well as how to use a camera. It was quite tough at first but once I managed to get the hang of it, I started to explore beyond what was taught by my partner.

With this experience in being an Assistant Head of Publicity, I managed to not only pick up a skill and find a new interest which is in designing, I also learnt how to work with partners and different stakeholders such as directors who have a certain concept for the posters and collateral in mind.
